Concepts of Physics - Vol. 1 & Vol. 2

Mainly written for higher secondary level students, Concepts of Physics is a comprehensive book on the subject that is equally relied upon for gaining an edge by applicants appearing for competitive examinations held for securing admission to prestigious engineering and medical schools of the country.

VOL 2:

Physics being a vast subject that requires much clarity in understanding the basics before moving higher: this book in a very methodical way dissects each topic, gives examples, explains the derivation of laws and formulas in a easy to understand language.

The book also has a large supplement of solved and unsolved problems, which help in better understanding of the concepts. After an introductory chapter, the book's second chapter is on Mathematics and its application in Physics. The third chapter focuses on Rest and Motion, the fourth discusses the concept of Forces, the fifth is about Newton’s Laws and friction is explained in detail in the sixth chapter.

Work and Energy and Circular motion are explained in detail in the seventh and eighth chapter and there is also a separate chapter on Rotational Mechanics. Other topics covered include Of Simple Harmonic Motion, Fluid Mechanics and Gravitation in the succeeding eleventh, twelfth and the thirteenth chapter. Besides the book also has chapters on Mechanical Properties, Wave Motion, Sound Waves, Light Waves, Geometrical Objects, Optical Instruments, Dispersion and Photometry. As evident from the topics, the book pretty much covers anything and everything that is expected from senior secondary level student of of Physics.

VOL 2:

A path breaking book that has simplified complex topics for the keen science student who struggle with physics, especially for those students who aspire to crack difficult competitive entrance examinations so as to seek admission in prestigious and premier colleges. Not just students preparing for engineering or medical college admission, this book is also relied upon by engineering students to refresh as well as clarify many of the physics laws and concepts that are applied in their courses.

The book explains all the basic terminologies and problem solving techniques that are essential for any school student. The book starts out where Vol. 1 ended and the first few chapters are devoted to study of heat and kinetic theory of gases.

The book proceeds to discuss the theory of relativity, Gauss’s law and thermodynamics in separate chapters devoted to the topics. Each chapter gets its fair share of explanations, discussions, examples and exercises to ensure that the student understands the topic in depth. Electric current and its flow through conductors, capacitors, electromagnetism and magnetic field are all explained in another chapter

Those intending to compete nationally for IITs, Medical College admission tests and other competitions, would definitely find this book of immense help.

About the author

H.C. Verma, a nuclear experimental physicist, is an alumni of IIT Kanpur. A well know writer of scientific books, especially those related to fundamental physics, he is the author of Foundation Science - Physics For Class 9 that is used by most schools in the country.

Born and brought up in Bihar, Professor Verma was not satisfied with the way Physics is taught at school, undergraduate and post-graduate levels in the country. This led him to write on the subject and the two volume Concepts of Physics has been very successful in enabling students of physics to understand complex subject matter because of the clarity and depth with which the author has dealt with it in these books.
